Senior Software Developer

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
This is a Software Developer position. The Programmer’s role is to write, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production life cycle. The Programmer will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide status reports where required.

Linux Administrator

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
The Linux Administrator’s role is to implement strategies for and administer MEM’s Linux systems and networks. Support functions include assisting with planning and design, installation, configuring, maintenance, control, optimizing, and diagnosis and repair of these systems. In addition, the position will provide support for implementing departmental tactics and corporate projects that support MEM’s Strategic Business Plan. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments, with limited supervision. General and specific assignments are outlined below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform job duties in accordance with MEM’s vision, mission and values.
  • Lead work unit planning functions. Provides supervisor and group members with recommendations on system software, hardware, processing needs; system enhancements and their corresponding impact on Linux systems, networks, telecommunications and IT security system effectiveness; provide input on the feasibility of option(s) being considered; and assists in the implementation plans, requirements and schedules.
  • Perform troubleshooting procedures to identify and correct basic and complex system hardware and software errors. Tasks include diagnostics, vendor or maintenance contractor contact where appropriate, remedial action, documentation of both the problem and its resolution, and communicating with the MEM staff for which the malfunction has an impact.
  • Confer with other systems personnel to discuss Linux, network or telecommunication software and hardware induced problems. Provides technical assistance in investigating and resolving complex problems using software and hardware monitors, utilities, tools and/or vendor assistance.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure hardware and software products and services and to resolve billing issues.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Practice hardware and software asset management, including maintenance of hardware component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Provide support during non-standard business hours, which include early mornings, evenings, weekends & holidays in required circumstances and is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week as needed or as scheduled.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures, including flowcharts and checklists for resolving end-user hardware requests and problems. Documents activities and changes.
  • Help manage and administer data center/computer room, UPS, HVAC and fire suppression system.
  • Provide backup support to the Systems and Security staff.
  • Provide 2nd level technical support to the Help Desk within defined SLA requirements. 
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all types of sensitive corporate and user data.

  • Monitor performance of Linux systems and its served devices. Use existing tools or write tools to assess performance statistics, summarize them, and raise alarms where appropriate.
  • Manage and administer application servers such as Boss, Tomcat and Cruise Control.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform Linux software updates and upgrades.
  • Distribute and supervise Linux server storage space allotments.
  • Analyze Linux system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in hardware or software capacities.
  • Install and configure Linux messaging and print systems.
  • Administer and maintain Linux and associated software, end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Perform Linux system backups and restores and maintains offsite storage and tape inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or a comparable combination of education and experience is required.

Experience:

Four years experience in computer or related industry that includes short-range planning, systems administration, and diagnosis and repair responsibilities; prior experience with medium to large enterprise environments that include multiple site locations.

Certifications/Designations:

Onsite Nurse Case Manager

Full-Time-Kansas City

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
The role of the Case Manager is to assure that patients have access to quality, cost effective heath care, and to assist in the assessment, development and coordination of a proactive plan in order to ensure the best outcome for the work injury. The role of case manager addresses early return to work and coordinates the return to work with the policyholder, the treating physician and the claims representative. The nurse case manager will facilitate a safe, effective, early return to work.

These job duties are accomplished primarily through ongoing personal contact with all parties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate the injured worker’s potential for return to work and how that may impact the rehabilitation process. Taking into consideration socio-economic factors, education, and vocational history
  • In cooperation with the medical service providers, the injured worker and the policyholder, establish a return to work target date. Wherever possible and consistent with sound medical judgment, search for light duty options to return the injured employee to safe, gainful employment as soon as possible
  • Establishes relationship with injured worker, family, and medical providers to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Work closely with all parties to effect maximum medical improvement while controlling costs and maintaining quality of care
  • In cases where the injured worker cannot return to the former job, makes appropriate recommendations regarding vocational rehabilitation to the claims representative
  • Maintains communication with all the parties involved in the claim
  • Makes appropriate recommendations and establishes achievable goals for all parties to the claim
  • Updates all participants as necessary regarding any treatment plan changes
  • Maintains and records case management activity
  • Documents activity on the medical management screen within the appropriate array within the ClaimsCenter system
  • Accomplishes ongoing documentation within the current claim’s standard
  • Communicates activity concerning the medical treatment plan and early return to work issues to all parties involved in the claim
  • Includes accurate cost analysis when closing claim to nurse case management and documents cost savings when realized
  • Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor
  • Updates supervisor in meetings, as scheduled or impromptu meetings, regarding any injured workers status
  • Consults with supervisor when direction is required on a case or when sensitive issues regarding the case or injured worker arise
  • Represents MEM in professional activities in the health care community, and internally
  • Attends conferences, seminars, and when requested, performs  calls/meetings with policyholders or producers
  • Works in the office and serves as a resource to claims representatives and other staff members at MEM
  • Works with claims representatives and other staff members to discuss or educate on them on the concepts of nurse case management
  • Explains and demonstrates nurse case management programs to customers, as requested
  • Acts as a mentor for less experienced and newly hired nurse case managers
  • Obtains and utilizes information pertaining to all facets of position responsibilities
  • Keeps a current file of articles, community resources and in-service information pertaining to nurse case management and health care resources
  • Attends, or is responsible, for presenting information when asked during staff meetings

Night Batch Operator

Part-Time-Columbia

MEM is looking to fill a Night Batch Operator position on a temporary basis for six to nine months, with the potential for a full-time position. The ideal candidate is an IT student looking to gain experience and work part-time. 

Hours are Monday through Friday, 7-11 p.m. with additional hours during end of month or end of quarter batches for an approximate total of 85 hours per month. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring nightly batch processing
  • Working with Software Developers and DBAs to resolve batch issues
  • Filling printers with paper in preparation for batch printing
  • Monitoring and distributing batch print
  • Simple routine maintenance on printers
  • Assisting with other IT activities as needed and as time permits
